What am I having?
While some parents want to feel the surprise at the delivery day, others are super excited when coming to figuring out the gender of the baby they are carrying.
For sure, the obstetrician can give an accurate answer to your baby’s sex; however, you must wait until the 20th week. Seeing your doctor is not fun at all, also. Not many expectant mothers are patient enough for an anatomy scan; instead, they are curious about this matter since the first semester.
That’s where the gender prediction test at home comes in!
You might have heard about some old wives’ tales that help predict the sex of the fetus growing inside your belly, right? But, do not expect the absolute accuracy because these unscientific methods only have a 50/50 chance of being right.

How to Identify Gender during Pregnancy at Home?
At the early stage of your pregnancy, you will find yourself easily confused with thoughts about your baby’s gender. Even parents who choose not to find out the gender of the baby also enjoy guessing whether they are expecting a boy or a girl.
Check out some gender identity tests in the following:
1. Mayan pregnancy test
The first method to discover the baby’s sex is to use Mayan pregnancy calendar.
Predicting the gender of unborn children has been practiced by the Mayans since the ancient time. As their culture revolved around math and astronomy, they created their own pregnancy calendar for the predicting gender purpose.
In order to use this test, you need to take a look at your age at the time of conception and the month of conception:
- If both numbers are either odd or even, then you’re pregnant with a girl.
- If one number is even and the other one is odd, well you’re carrying a boy.
So, will your result be even or odd…have a test from today and see whether it’s a little boy or a little girl on the way!
2. Chinese gender prediction chart
Similar to the Mayan test, the consultation with the online Chinese gender prediction test will give you an insight into the gender of your fetus.
Based on the Chinese lunar calendar and the ancient Chinese pregnancy chart (over 700 years old), the calculator will be able to determine the baby’s sex with just two pieces of information. A boy or a girl – let the chart analyze your lunar age and the lunar month when you conceive your baby and you’ll get the answer. This gender prediction method is pretty popular amongst parents as it delivers the result with the accuracy of up to 80%.
This free baby gender predictor is spot-on for me!
3. Baking soda test
Stop yourself from wondering how to check fetal gender at home!
I want to introduce another test quite popular lately; that’s: using the baking soda. All you need to do is to pour about 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a disposable cup, and then simply pee in it. The result with your urine will help you figure out if the baby growing inside is a boy or a girl.
If the urine fizzes, it means you get a boy; meanwhile, no reaction means it’s a girl.
In case you don’t like the test involving peeing, then you can try put salt on your breast before going to sleep. You’re likely to conceive a girl if the breast seems moist in the morning.
4. The ring test
Let’s see how the ring swings with this homemade gender test.
Known as one of most old-school methods, you need a wedding ring first. Tie a string to your ring and then hold it over your belly while you’re lying. Now it’s time to observe the ring’s movement: if it spins around in a circle, you soon will have a son; in case it moves back and forth, you will be likely to conceive a daughter.
Interestingly, my sister tried this and it actually worked – the ring did move in circles and she had a baby boy.
5. The Drano test
What to know about this Drano test?
In order to get the result, pregnant women need to add their urine to some Crystal Drano and wait for the reaction. The mixture’s color will predict the gender of your unborn baby – green, brown, black or blue indicates a boy, while red, yellow or no color at all means girl. Since it has no scientific proof, the prediction is not as absolutely precise as you may think.
However, I highly advise you NOT to try this experiment because it’s harmful to a pregnant woman’s health. The fume from this cleaning product may cause potential issues to both the mother and child.
6. Morning sickness
Did you know that morning sickness can give you hint about your baby’s sex?
For those who have extreme morning sickness not only during the first trimester but also extending to the second trimester, then you probably get pregnant with a little girl. On the other side, you will have a boy if not experiencing any nausea or morning sickness.
7. The garlic test
When you’re questioning about how to find gender of baby during pregnancy naturally, let me suggest you trying a garlic test – it’s also highly recommended on many pregnancy message boards.
If you eat a glove of garlic and smell nothing from your pores for 3 days, then the chance your fetus is a girl. Otherwise, if you feel the stink coming out from your whole body, then you will have a boy. Generally this method is an interesting way to get a glimpse into your unborn child.
8. Your cravings
Next, you should notice your cravings!
According to this old wives’ tale, you are carrying a girl if you keep yearning for spice, sugar and every sweet thing; at the same time, reaching for only meat, cheese, and salty foods is a sign a little boy is growing inside you.
Never expect your cravings can tell about the baby gender, right?
9. The heartbeat test
This can be applied in your upcoming ultrasound. During the scanning process, it’s your job to pay attention to the heart rate of your fetus.
If the little one’s heartbeat is faster than 140 beats per minute, then the new member of the family will be a girl; on the other hand, you will soon welcome a boy if the baby’s heart rate beats below 140.
10. The cabbage test
Here comes an easy experiment that you can also try for an insight into your unborn baby’s gender. With this test, the first and most important ingredient you need is a head of red cabbage – no need to care about the size but it has to be red.
Well, the mother must chop up the cabbage and boil it for 10 minutes and then remove it from the pot. For this test, you have to save the water which was earlier used for cabbage boiling; let it cool a bit and mix it with your urine.
- If the water turns pink or red, it’s a boy.
- If the water turns violet, then it’s a girl.
11. Acne
When we become pregnant, acne is one of reasons caused by fluctuating hormones in the mother’s body; nevertheless, some claim that it is a physical sign indicating the gender of the baby you are carrying.
They often say that the girl is likely to steal the beauty of her mother, so the lady pregnant with a girl tends to have a lot of acne. But, for those who experience the pregnancy period with acne-free, the chance is that you are pregnant with a boy.
12. Fork or spoon
Let’s see if the kitchen can help you reveal your baby’s sex!
With this experiment, you need the assistance of your husband or any family member. Ask them to tap a fork under one chair and a spoon under another chair without telling you which is which. You’re not allowed to peek also. Then you must make a decision and sit on a certain chair – the chair with the folk means you’re having a boy, while the spoon means a girl.

The answer is yes if you take advantage of the gender prediction test at home. These elaborate and bizarre methods are obviously fun experiments that will let you know whether the baby you conceive is a boy or a girl.
