The Chinese gender calendar, also called the Chinese gender prediction chart, matches a mother’s lunar age at conception with the lunar month of conception to point to a boy or a girl. Type your dates into the predictor below and it does the lunar conversion for you. It is a traditional guessing game with no scientific support, so enjoy the result and do not rely on it.
Parents often try the chart while they wait for the scan at 18 to 20 weeks, and it is easy to see why: all you need is two dates. This page gives you the predictor, the full chart for mothers aged 18 to 45, the Chinese New Year and lunar month dates for 2026 and 2027, and a plain look at how far the chart can be trusted. If you would rather check by hand, every step is written out below.

Chinese Gender Predictor 2027: Check Your Result
Choose how you want to enter the dates. If you know the day you conceived, use the first option. If you only know your due date, the second option counts back 266 days (38 weeks) to estimate it. Your dates stay in your browser: nothing is sent or saved.
Manual lookup (if you already know your lunar age and lunar month)
The predictor changes your two dates into the Chinese lunar calendar, works out your lunar age, and reads the matching cell of the chart below. It uses lunar month dates for 2014 to 2035, so it does not depend on any special browser feature. If a date falls outside that range, use the manual lookup.

The picture below is the same chart as an image, handy if you want to save it or print it. The table above, the picture and the predictor all use the same grid, so they give the same answer. Looking for the calendar-style images to pin or print? See our Chinese baby gender calendar page.
How to Use the Chinese Gender Calendar Step by Step
- Find the mother's lunar age at conception. In the lunar system a baby is one year old at birth, and everyone gains a year at Chinese New Year instead of on a birthday. Take the lunar year of conception, subtract the lunar year of birth, and add one.
- Find the lunar month of conception. Use the predictor above or the month dates further down this page. Lunar months do not match calendar months, and a date in early February can sit in a different lunar month from one in late February.
- Read the cell. Go to the row for the lunar age and the column for the lunar month. Blue points to a boy and pink points to a girl.
- Keep it light. The answer is a conversation starter, not a result. Plan your scan and your doctor visits as you normally would.
Worked example. A mother was born on March 12, 1993 and conceives on June 20, 2026. Chinese New Year 1993 fell on January 23, so she was born in lunar year 1993. Chinese New Year 2026 fell on February 17, so June 20, 2026 is in lunar year 2026. Her lunar age is 2026 minus 1993 plus 1, which is 34. Lunar month 5 of 2026 ran from June 15 to July 13, so the lunar month is 5. In the chart, row 34 and column 5 is pink, so the chart points to a girl.
How to Work Out Your Lunar Age and Lunar Month
Two things catch people out: the lunar year changes at Chinese New Year, not on January 1, and lunar months start and end on different dates from calendar months. The table below shows when recent lunar years began.
| Lunar year | Chinese New Year | Zodiac animal |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Feb 10, 2024 | Dragon |
| 2025 | Jan 29, 2025 | Snake |
| 2026 | Feb 17, 2026 | Horse |
| 2027 | Feb 6, 2027 | Goat |
| 2028 | Jan 26, 2028 | Monkey |
If your birthday falls before Chinese New Year in your birth year, your lunar birth year is the year before. A mother born on January 10, 1993, for example, belongs to lunar year 1992, because Chinese New Year 1993 was on January 23.
Leap months. About every three years the lunar calendar adds a 13th month to stay in step with the seasons. 2025 had a leap 6th month (July 25 to August 22, 2025) and 2028 will have a leap 5th month (June 23 to July 21, 2028). 2026 and 2027 have none. The predictor treats a leap month as the regular month with the same number. The traditional chart has no separate column for it, so there is no single correct way to handle this case, and a result in a leap month deserves extra caution.
Lunar dates follow China time. If you conceived close to midnight on the day a lunar month changes, or in a place far from China's time zone, the date in China may be one day later than yours.
Chinese Lunar Month Dates for 2026 and 2027
Use these tables to check the predictor or to work by hand. Dates from January 1 to February 16, 2026 belong to lunar year 2025, whose months 11 and 12 began on December 20, 2025 and January 19, 2026.

Does the Chinese Gender Calendar Change Every Year?
The chart itself does not change. The same grid of ages and months is used in 2026, 2027 and any other year, and labels such as "Chinese gender calendar 2027" are mostly search labels. What changes every year is the date conversion. Chinese New Year moves between late January and mid February, so the same calendar date can land in a different lunar month and give a different lunar age. February 10, for example, is in lunar month 12 in 2026 but in lunar month 1 in 2027.
That is why the predictor and the month tables are what we update, not the chart. They already cover conceptions in both 2026 and 2027.
Where the Chinese Gender Chart Comes From
Popular stories say the chart was found in a royal tomb near Beijing and is more than 700 years old, or that it was kept at the Qing court. We have not found a source that confirms either story, and several versions of the chart circulate online with small differences. The grid on this page is the one we have published here for years. What can be said safely is that linking a mother's age and a lunar month to the baby's sex belongs to Chinese folk tradition and has spread widely through the internet. Treat the origin stories as folklore.
How Reliable Is the Chinese Gender Chart? Accuracy and Evidence
There is no scientific evidence that a mother's lunar age and the lunar month of conception can predict a baby's sex. Sex is set at conception by whether the sperm carries an X or a Y chromosome, and no study has shown that the mother's age or the lunar month changes that. Because there are only two outcomes, a random guess is right about half of the time, so a chart that matches your baby feels convincing and one that misses is easy to forget. We have not found published research behind figures such as "93%" or "99%" that appear on some sites.
If you want a real answer, an ultrasound at around 18 to 20 weeks can usually show the baby's sex, and some blood tests offered earlier in pregnancy may too. Ask your doctor or midwife what is available to you.
For another point of view, this short video from a different channel asks whether the Chinese gender calendar really works. We did not make it, and we include it for context only.
Chinese Gender Chart Compared With Other Gender Predictors

Common Mistakes With the Chinese Gender Chart
- Using the Western age. The chart needs the lunar age, which is usually one or two years higher than her age in years.
- Using the calendar month. The column is the lunar month. A conception on March 1 is not in month 3.
- Missing the lunar new year. A mother born in January or early February may belong to the previous lunar year, which changes her age by one.
- Using the due date or the first day of the last period. The chart wants the month of conception, which is usually about two weeks after the last period began.
- Trying every version of the chart. Versions differ in places. Switching until one agrees with your hopes defeats the point of the game.
- Treating it as a plan. Timing conception by the chart is not known to change the odds of having a boy or a girl.
Chinese Gender Chart FAQ
How do I use the Chinese gender chart?
Work out the mother's lunar age at conception and the lunar month of conception, then read the cell where that row and column meet. B means boy and G means girl. The predictor near the top of this page converts your dates and finds the cell for you.
What is lunar age and how do I find mine?
In the Chinese system a baby is one year old at birth and everyone adds a year at Chinese New Year instead of on a birthday. Subtract your lunar birth year from the lunar year of conception and add one. The date tables on this page show when each lunar year began.
Does the Chinese gender calendar change for 2027?
The chart does not change, but the date conversion does. Chinese New Year falls on February 6 in 2027 and fell on February 17 in 2026, which moves the lunar month and the lunar age for dates in January and February. Use the predictor or the 2027 month table.
How reliable is the Chinese gender chart?
No study has shown that it predicts a baby's sex better than chance. With two possible outcomes, a guess is right about half of the time. Treat the chart as a game and ask your doctor about the scan to find out the baby's sex.
What if I do not know my conception date?
Use your due date. The predictor subtracts 266 days (38 weeks) to estimate the conception date. An estimate can be off by a week or two, which sometimes moves the result into the next lunar month, so check the month tables if the date is close to a boundary.
What if conception falls in a leap month?
A leap month is the extra 13th month that some lunar years have, such as the leap 6th month of 2025. The traditional chart has no column for it, so the predictor uses the regular month with the same number. Treat that result with extra caution.
Can I use the chart again for a second pregnancy?
Yes. Work out the lunar age and lunar month for the new conception date and read the chart again. The answer for one pregnancy says nothing about the next, and the chart may point the other way simply because the age or the month changed.
Can the chart help me choose my baby's sex?
No. Sex is set at conception by the sperm, and timing conception by the chart is not known to change the odds. Use the chart for fun only and speak with your doctor about any questions on conceiving.
This page is for entertainment only. The Chinese gender chart is a folk tradition, not a medical test, and it cannot tell you the sex of your baby. For medical questions about your pregnancy, speak with your doctor or midwife.
